We have the best Bourbon Red heritage turkeys! Our turkeys are truly free range, raised in the sun and fresh air of East Texas. Bourbon Reds make large roasters, are easy to raise, and taste the best (our opinion) of the heritage breeds. At night, they put themselves up in the huge oaks and pines shading their pasture. Have you ever seen a turkey tree? What a sight! Especially back-lit by the setting sun. During the day they fly over any fences, especially the fence around the garden!
Our birds are raised naturally, the old fashioned way, out on pasture chasing grasshoppers and taking dirt showers. We raise our turkeys and chickens together, and they seem to do well that way. Ours scratch for most of their food on developed pastures. Our 8-foot predator fence around four acres has truly solved the problem of foxes getting our Holiday Turkeys.
We supplement the birds' diet with gluten-free, organic feed made especially for them with whole grains. We never feed them chemicals such as arsenic or growth hormones. They are grown slowly to a good roasting size in 8 to 9 months, full of the wonderful firm flavor God gave them. We give them supplemental flax seed for extra Omega-3 goodness. We're proud of our animals, which we consider better than organic!
